Felix Slim & The Fat Chickens project started to germinate in May 2022 when I met virtuoso pianist Cristian “Poyo” Moya in person after one of his recitals for the Argentinian Consulate in New York City.
We immediately bonded over our common passion for classic blues, ragtime, swing and other related genres and soon began to discuss a collaboration with Poyo's Trio in Barcelona, Spain, which culminated with a speedily recorded live session during January 17th and 18th 2023 that produced 8 outstanding original tracks and our first album together.
With probably the two most sought-after blues bassists and drummers in Spain: Oriol Fontanals on upright bass and Reginald Vilardell on drums, the band boasts a masterful rhythm section that can be heard on those 8 killer tracks that display an
impressive range from ragtime and hillbilly blues on “Right All Night Long”, classic swing on “Tell Me Mama”, Western swing on “Send Me a Picture of Your Face” to jump blues on “Open the Back Door, Mama” , and Chicago blues on “The Blues Disease”.
